A short story
The house was built in 1796 by Kaspar Wahle. When compulsory schooling was introduced, the town of Winterberg bought this property in 1804 and expanded it into the first Winterberg school. 2 classrooms were created on the ground floor, while 2 teacher's apartments were set up on the upper floor.
When a new school was built near the church in 1856, the gendarmerie moved into the two classrooms and set up the "kittchen" in the basement. The town of Winterberg used the attic as a bulk floor for grain and as a grain store for poor harvest years.
In 1920 the Rendant August Gruß bought the house, from which it was bought by the Bochum Ski Club in 1928.
After the renovation work, the "Bochumer Skihütte" was inaugurated in 1929 and, after several renovations and additions in the following years, is still a popular starting point for the various sports activities in the Winterberg holiday world. The entrance to the Rothaarsteig is approx. 250 m from the hut.
